Luka Modrić is widely regarded as the greatest footballer in Croatian history and a true generational talent. He has earned over 170 caps for the Vatreni (The Blazers), making him the country’s most capped player. Modrić captained Croatia to their first-ever World Cup Final in 2018, where they finished as runners-up. His incredible performances at the 2018 tournament earned him the Golden Ball award (Best Player), and he went on to become the first player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d’Or in over a decade. He also led the team to an exceptional third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup, cementing his status as an eternal national hero.
