The midfielder’s now-famous “goggles” or “specs” celebration is actually a sweet gesture of support for his young nephew, Jack, who has poor eyesight and has to wear eye protectors to play football. McGinn explained that he uses the celebration to provide his nephew with encouragement, hoping it inspires other children who wear goggles to play the sport. After the historic match against Denmark, McGinn was famously pulled aside for a routine post-match drug test, meaning he missed out on the initial dressing room celebrations.
