Joining in 1988, Dublin was pivotal in Cambridge United’s rise through the leagues, playing both as a prolific centre-forward and, due to injuries, as a reliable centre-half.

He was instrumental in securing back-to-back promotions for the club. A standout achievement came in 1990 when he made history by scoring the first-ever goal in a Wembley play-off final, leading the U’s to promotion from the Fourth Division. He was also vital in their 1990-91 campaign as they became champions of the Third Division and reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in two consecutive seasons. His impressive performances helped Cambridge United achieve their highest-ever finish in the Football League, ultimately earning him a significant move to Manchester United in 1992. Dublin has often expressed his deep affection for the club, famously stating that his Cambridge United play-off medal meant more to him than his Premier League winner’s medal.
