Shaun Goater’s journey at Manchester City is the stuff of legend; after a quiet start following his 1998 move from Bristol City, he became the club’s top scorer for five consecutive seasons. He famously reached the milestone of 100 goals for the club in the most dramatic fashion possible—scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the final derby at Maine Road, after famously dispossessing Gary Neville. The Bermudian forward was so vital to the fans that they created the immortal “Feed the Goat and he will score” chant, a sentiment that rang true as he spearheaded City’s rise from the third tier back to the Premier League. Beyond his 103 goals, Goater was awarded an MBE for his services to sport and young people in Bermuda, where he is a national hero. His legacy at City was further cemented when he was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame in 2006, forever remembered as the striker who simply couldn’t stop scoring when it mattered most.
