Malcolm Allison, affectionately known as ‘Big Mal’, was a hugely influential figure at Manchester City FC. He first served as assistant manager during the club’s golden era in the late 1960s, helping to guide them to a League Championship (1968), FA Cup (1969), League Cup (1970), and European Cup Winners’ Cup (1970). Later, in the late 1970s, he returned for a spell as manager, bringing his unique brand of charisma and tactical innovation back to Maine Road. ‘Big Mal’ was renowned for his larger-than-life personality, bold predictions, and his impact on modernising English football coaching.
