Barry Bannan is considered a modern Sheffield Wednesday icon. Since joining the club in 2015, the Scottish midfielder has made over 400 appearances for the Owls, placing him high up in the club’s all-time appearance rankings. Bannan is known for his technical skill, “all-action” energy, and the ability to see passes others don’t, making him the focal point of Wednesday’s midfield.

His leadership qualities were formally recognised when he was made the club captain in 2020. Significantly, his loyalty to the club is legendary; he chose to stay and fight for the badge, even taking a wage reduction, after the club was relegated to League One.
