Tony Currie arrived at Sheffield United in 1968 and instantly became a hero, scoring on his debut against Tottenham Hotspur. Over the next eight years, he made 313 appearances, scoring 54 goals and providing countless assists that left defenders in his wake. His ability to “drop a shoulder” and spray passes across the pitch made him one of the most exciting players in the country during the 1970s.

Did you know? In 2014, as part of the club’s 125th-anniversary celebrations, Tony Currie was officially voted by the fans as Sheffield United’s Greatest Ever Player. His legacy is literally built into the stadium; the South Stand at Bramall Lane was renamed the “Tony Currie Stand” in 2018 to honour his immense contribution to the club. He remains a regular fixture at the Lane today, continuing to serve as a club ambassador and a living link to the club’s golden era.
