Mark Viduka remains one of the most gifted strikers to ever wear the white shirt, famously joining Leeds United for a club-record £6 million in 2000. He made an immediate impact, scoring 22 goals in his debut season and helping the club reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2001. His most legendary moment came in November 2000, when he scored all four goals in a breathtaking 4-3 victory over Liverpool at Elland Road. Affectionately known as “Big Dukes” or the “V-Bomber”, Viduka was renowned for his incredible ability to hold the ball up and his surprisingly delicate footwork for such a powerful man. Interestingly, footballing excellence runs in the family, as he is a cousin of Croatian legend Luka Modrić. During his four-year stay, he netted 73 goals in 166 appearances, including a vital winner against Arsenal at Highbury in 2003 that helped preserve the club’s top-flight status for another year. Today, he lives a quieter life running a coffee shop in Zagreb, Croatia, but he remains a permanent hero to the Elland Road faithful.
