Fratton Park. Old Girl. Fortress Fratton.
The famous Fratton Park was opened in 1899 and you just won’t believe who one of the architects were that helped create this jewel of English Football. Yes, that’s correct, Archibald Leitch.
No football fan can look at my Fratton Park art print without instantly recognising which English Football Stadium they are seeing. Dubbed ‘The Old Girl’, Fratton Park has been Portsmouth FC’s home ground since that first game in September 1899.
Unlike their south coast footballing neighbours, Southampton and Brighton, Portsmouth FC have resisted the urge to move to an out of town stadium. Which I think is a great decision as you just could not recreate the proper old school feel that Fratton Park offers. Moving would also mean they relinquish the unique bit of trivia that they have the only English Football Ground NOT situated on mainland Britain.
You can get 4 items of Portsmouth FC merchandise in my online shop. Portsmouth posters, t-shirts and mugs. I also have a Limited Edition Portsmouth FC Record Sleeve inspired t-shirt (strictly limited to just 25 t shirts).
